Setting up SMTP Authentication in
Outlook Express

You will need to use SMTP authentication if you want to send mail out through PortBridge's mail server, but are not connected to the PortBridge network. NOTE: It is recommended that you use the outgoing (SMTP) mail server of the ISP that is providing you with an internet connection rather than using PortBridge's mail server for outgoing mail under these circumstances.

  1. In Outlook Express, go to Tools | Accounts and click on the Mail tab. Select your email account and hit Properties.
  2. Click on the Servers tab.
  3. Under "Outgoing Mail Server", check the box for "My Server Requires Authentication". Click on the Settings button.
  4. Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server". Click OK.
  5. Click OK to save and close the Properties window, then click Close to close the Internet Accounts window.
  6. Close and restart Outlook Express.
