Setting Up Your Connection to PortBridge
in OS/2

The IBM Dial-Up for TCP/IP utility SLIPPM.EXE can be found in the Internet Utilities folder, where it is named "Dial Other Internet Providers". (Do not be confused by the IBM Internet Dialer which is only used for connecting to IBM's global network.)  To set up a dialer configuration that can be used to connect to PortBridge, double click on the "Dial Other Internet Providers" icon then click on the Add Entry button

A window appears with the first of four pages you will need to fill in:

Page 1:

  1. Enter your Username for Name
  2. Enter PortBridge for Description
  3. Enter your Username for your Login ID
  4. Enter your Password in the password field
  5. Enter an Access Number for PortBridge
  6. Login Sequence should say NONE
  7. Select PPP for Connection Type

Now click on the right arrow or Connect Info tab to go to the Second page and fill in the following fields, leaving the others blank.

Page 2:

  1. MRU Size = 1500
  2. VJ Compression should be selected
  3. Primary Interface should be selected
  4. Domain Nameserver = 209.170.128.70
  5. Your Host Name should be your Username
  6. Your Domain Name should be www.portbridge.com

Now click on the right arrow or Server Info tab to go to the Third page and fill in the following fields leaving the others blank.

Page 3:

  1. News Server — news.portbridge.com
  2. WWW Server — www.portbridge.com
  3. Mail Gateway — mail.portbridge.com (Warp 4 only)
  4. POP Mail Server — mail.portbridge.com
  5. Reply Domain — portbridge.com
  6. Reply (Mail) ID — Enter your Username
  7. POP Login ID — Enter your Username
  8. POP Password — Enter your Password

Now click on the right arrow or Modem Info tab to go to the last page and set the fields as follows, leaving the others blank.

Page 4:

  1. Modem Type — select your modem from the list.  If your make and model is not supported, try "Hayes Compatible", which should work for most modems or "Other".  For Other modems you may have to configure initialization strings manually.
  2. Com Port — select the name of the serial port on which your modem is installed.
  3. Speed (baud) — select the maximum speed suitable for your modem.

Once you have finished all four pages, close the window and select Save.  You can now connect to PortBridge by clicking on the Dial button of the main dialer window.
